New Get a Mac Ads

Apple’s ad agency just keep pumping out excellent commercials. I think Apple should place these ads in iTunes as a free download, or even package them as a set for downloading. Watch, now that I posted this on my blog, in a month you will see the ads in iTunes. Well her is a link to the ads click here, and enjoy.

When Do You Think the New iPhone Will be Released???

prod-iphoneAfter reading the various news articles that the iPhone is unavailable at the online Apple Store, I decided to take a look for myself. Sure enough, it is showing as currently not available. But, when I went to the AT&T web site it is showing that it can be purchased. I also called around to some of the local Apple Stores, and they said that they are out of both the 8GB and 16GB iPhones. With the iPhone not being available everyone, is thinking that the iPhone will be released this month. At this point it’s anyones guess as to when the new iPhone is going to be released. I personally think it’s still in June. While I have read that it might be this week, or even next week. It’s all rumor and no concrete evidence.

I would like to know what you the reader thinks the new iPhone will be released. So, drop a line in the comments section, or you can visit my facebook page by clikcing the tab above, or the link to the right. I have started a new discussion thread on this subject.

New Tabs

facebook-logoIf you have been visiting my blog for awhile you will have noticed that I have added two new tabs.  Both of these tabs have links to my Facebook Groups.  I have started a discussion topic in each of them.  You can comment on the discussion topic, or start one of your own, it’s up to you.  But, you do have to be a Facebook member to comment, or start a topic.  It’s free to join, and easy to sign up.  Yeah, I know it sounds like an ad, but its not.  Anyways, click on the tabs, and checkout the groups.

Firefox Tip for Windows

firefox-logoWith today’s browser’s you can type in just the name of the site without the .com extension, and it will auto-fill it in the .com for you.  We also all know the Ctrl+Enter trick.  This is where you type in just the name, for example - wordpress, then you press Ctrl+Enter, and viola the browser fills in the complete web address for you.  Well, with .net addresses you generally have to type in the name plus .net.  Firefox 2.0 for Windows has resolved this issue for you.  When you press Shit+Enter the browser will fill in the complete address, but it will fill it in with .net and not .com.  I have tried this in Internet Explorer 6 SP2 and 7, in both browsers it does not work.  If you have a browser tip you would like to share, be it a Windows or Mac Internet browser tip, drop a note in the comments section.

Apple’s Auto-Dimming NO MORE!!!

lightheadswcom-caffeineWhile watching Techzilla last week on Episode 83, they showed a free app you can download for your Mac called Caffeine. This is a pretty cool software app. It allows your Mac to not dim the screen or activate the screensaver. You might ask yourself, well I want my Mac to utilize the power saving features, so that I can save on my electricity bill. You are correct, but don’t you hate when your watching a video on your Mac and all of a sudden your display dims. Well no more, with Caffeine this is a thing of the past. Caffeine runs in your Menu Bar at the top right corner. You can set a time limit to disable the power save mode by holding down the command key and clicking on the icon. Or if you wish, you can simply click on the coffee cup icon in your menu bar to disable and re-enable power save mode. I tried it out, and it works great. No longer will I have to jiggle my mouse to brighten my screen. You can download the app by clicking here.

Mario Kart Wii

mario-kart-wiiToday I bought Mario Kart Wii from Nintendo. I got it at Costco for $43.99. I opened it up and popped the Wii remote in the Wheel that came with the game within seconds. I had to download a small update for my Wii to play Mario Kart Wii. The update took less than a minute, and I was on my way to playing. My kids, my wife, and I found the game to very fun to play. My daughter is six, and my son is three. They both enjoyed playing their favorite Mario characters. You can play as the classic Mario characters, or as Baby Mario and Princess Peach. I ordered the additional Wheel from Amazon, and it should be here on Friday. This game receives two thumbs up from me and my family. Way to go Nintendo.

Breaking iPhone News

prod-iphoneThis just in… AT&T is going to subisdize the second generation 3G iPhone. Yes, you are reading this correctly. According to a Fortune Blog on CNNMoney.com, AT&T will be subsidizing $200.00 of the 3G iPhone with a 2-year contract. This means you can purchase the 8GB iPhone for $199.00, and the 16GB iPhone for $299.00. “Both Apple and AT&T declined to comment”, according to the Fortune Blog. The new iPhone will have true GPS, and not cell phone triangulation technology. The iPhone will also be thinner than the current version. Up until now everyone has been stating that the new iPhone will actually be thicker than the current one. I guess we will have to wait and see. Finally, according to the anonymous source that Fortune spoke with; they said that the new iPhone will be released on or around June 27th. This is approximately the one year anniversary of the iPhone launch.

I guess AT&T is hoping to lure customers away from their current cell phone providers with these new contract terms. For me personally, my contract is up in August, so switching for me will not be that long of a wait. The only caveat is that you have to buy the phone from an AT&T Store, and not the Apple Store to receive the subsidized cost. Maybe by the time the iPhone launches they will allow you to buy subsidized iPhones from the Apple Store.

As for the models of the new iPhones, I believe Apple will introduce a 32GB model. If they don’t do it at launch time they probably will do it sometime before the end of the year. Again this is my opinion and not fact. I just hope my opinion is correct. With all of the new 3rd party apps that are going to be available to be installed on the iPhone; it would only be logical that Apple would produce a larger capacity iPhone.
